A Work in Progress
My childhood was a joyous one.
My teenage years were yet more fun!
I welcomed all the challenges that came with 21.
Then I wed at 22, when I was still at BYU.
I still had 2 more years to do,
So Jennie worked to put me through.
I graduated with a son!
The three of us then headed south’
where I taught school; lived hand-to-mouth!
It was there our family grew.
We went abroad with quite a few
In Baghdad JJ’s birth came due.
With him, our fertile days were done.
The globe became our trotting ground.
We lived and worked the world around.
And everywhere we went, we found
the gospel message to abound.
And, oh, the friendships that we won!’
When I had done all things required;
the things for which I had been hired;
and all the children I had sired
had moved away, I then retired.
And looked back on the web I’d spun.
As now I watch my family grow:
grandkids and great ones, row on row
how great the joy, you cannot know!
There’s no such thing as status quo.
In certain ways, my life has just begun!
